DESCRIPTION:In this brand new 4 day summer day camp at Hammerspace our resi
 dent swordsmith Dave will be guiding 3-4 intrepid young smiths through all
  the steps of making a short sword from scratch. \nWe will begin with some
  specialized steel meant for high performance\, strength\, and edge retent
 ion: 5160 Spring Steel \nThis carbon steel has the perfect balance between
  toughness and edge retention. It's extremely forgiving to heat treat\, wi
 th exceptional hardness and fine grain structure. This steel has great sta
 bility in quench and is easy to work with and grind\, even at higher hardn
 esses. \nOn day one\, students will go though some general knowledge build
 ing and learn to grind a sword profile\, and create a fuller for the cente
 r of our blades. \nOn day two\, we will grind the bevel for the edges. We 
 will prepare our tangs for our cross guards and handles and finally heat t
 reat our blade to complete our work for day two. \nOver night\, our smith 
 will complete the 2 hour tempering process. \nOn Saturday\, we will begin 
 by grinding\, machining and forging our crossguards and drilling and tappi
 ng our pommels\, interspersed with cleaning and sanding our blades from da
 y 1. We will complete our day by sawing and gluing exotic hardwood handle 
 blanks. \nOn Sunday we will shape and sand our handles and leather spacers
  and assemble our finished sword as well create a leather frog to carry ou
 r swords on a belt. \nFeel free to order or bring food and drink to the cl
 asses. \nWear closed toe shoes and weather appropriate clothing. \nAges 14
